Unnai Pol Oruvan - Kamal's Next

Ulaganaayagan Kamal Hassan has changed his next film's name to Unnai Pol Oruvan from Thalaivan Irukkindran. The movie will be bilingual in Tamil and Telugu and is a remake of A Wednesday. Its Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal in the lead. The shooting will take place at Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. Chakri is directing the film.

Venkatesh is playing Mohanlal's role in the Telugu version. The Tamil version will be release in Kerela simultanously . Shruthi Haasan will be debuting as the music director in this film which is being produced by Kamal’s Raj Kamal Films in association with UTV. Rumour of Vijay Changing Get-ups in Vettaikkaran

Change in getup. When a Kollywood fan hears these words, two film stars come to his mind immediately – Kamal Hassan, for the multitude of getups he has donned, and Vijay, for his reluctance to change getups!

Throughout his career, Vijay has tried only about Three or four changes in hairstyle. Clearly, he does not like changing getups often and the star had confirmed this in his interviews so many times. But it appears that Vijay has finally given in to the repeated request of his fans – a change in getup. In Vettaikkaran, the star is rumoured to appear in a new hairstyle. And there is also a rumour that he will appear in four different getups in songs
!

Vettaikkaran has been in the news for quite a lot of reasons of late, apart from its heroine Anushka. The film boasts of a never-before-seen introductory song for Vijay; his son Sanjay’s cameo; spectacular dance and stunts sequences, and now, the rumour about Vijay’s hairstyle. Well, it looks like Vettaikkaran could well revive Vijay’s magic.

Nandita

She doesn’t wear glittering eye lashes or die for designer wears, but she does walk the red carpet and does it in style stealing the show. She is a Diva in her own right. It takes more than a few films and the limelight that comes with it to be associated with movies that serve as a wake up call for social awareness. The drive! Call her the queen of parallel cinema or the thinking man’s Monica Belucci, there is no denial to the fact that Nandita belongs to that rare breed of thinking women in Indian cinema. That is a species in the brink of extinction with very few surviving specimens, perhaps even in the world cinema.

With her desi (or rather homely) elegant looks, she could easily have given a run for many of the top Bollywood heroines. Instead, she consciously stayed away and distanced herself from mainstream films. And with good reasons, at that. Without which we wouldn’t have had the magical Dhanalakshmi of Azhagi or the intense Shyama of Kannathil Muthamittal. Not to mention, Azhagi must have been the only film in which she ran around the trees for the nostalgic ‘Pattu Solli’ song.

Nandita has an impressive record of 36 diverse movies in almost all prominent Indian languages including all South Indian languages namely Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada. Starting from the Oriya movie Parinati to her last year release Ramchand Pakistani, Nandita has slipped into the shoes of fighters, revolutionaries, yearning mothers and rape victims fighting for justice with consummate ease. She has chosen to be part of stories that, in her words, “need to be told”, according to her website. That includes number of theatre works and short films apart from movies.

There are several regional, national and international awards on her impressive CV. When she was invited to be the jury member of the prestigious Cannes festival, she let the world know that Indian cinema is more than just beauty queens turned actors.

Her marriage was short lived, but that did not stop her from experimenting in relationships. She is an independent thinking woman who falls into the ‘woman who wears her attitude on her sleeves’ type.

Nandita’s directorial debut Firaaq, after finishing its dream run in almost all the international film festivals, opened last week in India. Post-Godhra riots form the backdrop of the movie that was also banned from screening in the multiplexes in Gujarat briefly – for reasons not seemed to be political. The multiplex owners alleged the distributors of having demanded more money for the film’s rights.

Firaaq won three awards in the Asian Festival of First Films in the categories of Best Film, Best Screenplay and the Purple Orchid Award. The movie also won the Special Jury Award in the International Film Festival of Kerala, the special prize in the International Thessaloniki Film Festival, Best Editor award in the Dubai International Film Festival, Best Film award in the Kara International Film Festival, Pakistan and The Maverick Spirit Award at the Cinequest Film Festival, San Jose, USA.

Although not a runaway success, Firaaq has won accolades for its honest portrayal of lives of ordinary citizens whose lives were victimized in the riot hit Gujarat. The movie’s stellar cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Deepti Naval, Paresh Rawal, Raghubir Yadav, Sanjay Suri, Shahana Goswami and Tisca Chopra.

With Firaaq, Nandita has marked her debut in direction with panache although she has directed a few short films earlier. That’s probably not to say that she will shun being in front of the cameras.

In the glitzy and glamorous world of cinema, here’s one star determined to defy the flash-and-disappear rule and proud enough to flaunt her thinking cap with perfect nonchalance.

Dr. A R Rehman

A.R.Rehman seems to be getting showered with titles and medals. The Middlesex University in London has announced a doctorate for Rehman.

The Isai Puyal is very busy with composing, re-recording and overseas program trips. His every minute seems to be valuable. Amidst being so busy, he is even running a music school KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, where our traditional Indian music as well as Western music is taught.

Recently, the Regional Director, Joe Victor of Middlesex Music University visited Rehmans music school. In appreciation of Rehmans service to the music field, he announced an honorary doctorate for Rehman to be conferred by his university. A delighted Rehman will accept the doctorate at a function to be held in London in July.

During their meeting, the two of them discussed the possibility of developing an Academic Articulation for the Bachelor of Arts Honors Programmed for Music Composition and Music Performance, in Rehmans music school.

General public thrilled to get buttermilk from Rajini himself

Are you a person who says once more to Rajini’s style? If you go to Kelambakkam gardens, you can receive from his hands.

After completing his Hyderabad schedule of ‘Endhiran,’ Rajini is at present relaxing at his farm at Kelambakkam (They did say there’s a train to that place). It is Rajini’s habit to relax at his farm whenever there is no shooting and he went there a couple of days back.

Sitting in the cool confines of his air-conditioned farm house, he looked around and saw the labourers sweating it out in the scorching sun and it moved him. He immediately summoned the supervisor and ordered cool buttermilk to be served to them.

He also asked for buttermilk to be given to the passersby. So, from yesterday, a pandal has been put up outside the garden, buttermilk kept in a huge clay pot and served to the thirsty passersby. When Rajini came there yesterday, he himself served the buttermilk. When news spread, hordes of people flocked to the place to receive the buttermilk from Rajini himself.

So many times, his rasikas have done milk abhishekam for his cut-outs. Now the superstar is happy that with his hands, he is at last able to repay by offering buttermilk to the thirsty.
